I hope that everyone had a very safe winter and that you and your family are in good health as the spring
months approach us. To keep you updated on the issues with the Police Department, I want to reiterate
what I spoke about in the latest edition of the Walton Hills Owl.

The Police Department is here for your safety and protection of both life and property. I am asking that
all residents and our business partners be concerned with your surroundings. Stay alert. Be cautious of
people who are driving around the neighborhood aimlessly. Be aware of the salesperson that is trying
to sell you a service or the individual who is seeking money for charity. If something does not appear
right, it probably isn’t. Call the police.

I am not saying that all of these people are shifty or that they are trying to take advantage of you, but
just be aware. If you feel that someone is acting suspiciously, just call us, we will respond and check
him or her out. If you are going out of town, make sure that you notify the police so that we are aware
that you are gone. We will pay special attention to your property and do impromptu checks on your
home. Let your neighbors know that you are gone so that they may keep an extra eye out for anyone
or anything suspicious.

Everyone needs to help combat crime in the neighborhood; it is up to all of us to ensure that we continue
to live in a very safe community. I would also ask that if anyone has any concerns about any issues regarding
the Police Department, please contact me. I will make myself available to everyone in the community to address
any and all concerns. Remember, the Walton Hills Police Department is here to serve you in any way possible.

I would like to address a couple of other things as well. The loud stereos emitting from vehicles has started to increase again. This agency has a zero tolerance for such annoyance and will cite anyone caught with a loud
stereo on a first offense.

Please let your children who are driving know this. We will cite adults and juvenile offenders without warning.
The same is true for speeding. Residents are not exempt from the speed limits posted in Walton Hills. I am
asking that everyone slow down and be very cautious of your speed on hills, especially near the parks where people are walking or riding their bikes.

Here are a few things to remember to keep everyone safe.
When walking on streets, please walk facing traffic and stay on the shoulder of the road. We are seeing some people walking three abreast in the roadway and this is not safe for you or the vehicles that are trying to get around you. When riding your bicycles, please ride with the flow of traffic on the shoulder of the roadway.
I hope that everyone has a very safe and secure summer and remember; if you are not sure whether or not you should call the police, then call. We welcome all calls. Never feel that you are calling for something you feel might
not be relevant. Let us make that determination. If you have an emergency, call 9-1-1.
The non-emergency number for the Police Department is 440.232.1313.
